Historical utility context
Compare utility bills without confusing cost, usage, and time.
DwellMetry preserves reviewed billing periods and calculates transparent historical comparisons. It does not turn two bills into a weather-adjusted efficiency result or a diagnosis.
Current accessHistorical utility records are available with a Free household. Advanced weather-based analysis has separate requirements.
Worked comparison
The same bills can tell different stories depending on the denominator.
Fictional two-bill example The charges below contain only usage charges. Real bills may also include fixed fees, taxes, adjustments, or other items.
| Bill | Total usage | Billing days | Usage per day | Total charges | Effective unit cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Earlier period | 600 kWh | 30 | 20 kWh/day | $90.00 | $0.15/kWh |
| Later period | 744 kWh | 31 | 24 kWh/day | $133.92 | $0.18/kWh |
Historical comparison — not weather adjusted. These arithmetic differences do not identify a cause, prove inefficiency, or diagnose equipment.
What stays visible
- Source values, units, currency, and inclusive billing dates.
- Usage, total charges, per-day values, and effective unit cost as separate fields.
- Duplicate candidates, overlaps, corrections, and unsupported units.
Gas volume is not automatically energy.
A gas bill expressed in volume remains volume unless a valid heating-value basis is available. DwellMetry keeps the energy result unknown rather than applying an unsupported conversion.
Context is not a conclusion
Weather, billing-period length, rate changes, occupancy patterns, thermostat settings, equipment configuration, and corrected bills can all affect a comparison. Historical totals alone do not establish that a home or HVAC system is efficient, inefficient, normal, abnormal, or safe.
Technical status and limitations
Advanced analysis is available only to eligible homes with the required measurements, history, and permission.
Weather-normalized conclusions, forecasting, optimization, savings claims, and confirmed diagnosis are not offered by this public comparison.
