Home energy

Make sense of home energy records before interpreting performance

Learn how billing dates, usage, rates, weather, and household context affect comparisons—and what a bill alone cannot establish.

Start with the comparison, not the conclusion

A higher bill can come from more energy use, a different price structure, a longer billing period, or a combination. Comparing costs without separating those pieces can point to the wrong conclusion.

DwellMetry supports reviewed historical utility records and exact unit conversions where a valid basis exists. A bill comparison is not automatically weather adjusted and does not establish efficiency, forecast savings, optimize equipment, or confirm a diagnosis.

Questions worth separating

  • Are the billing periods the same length?
  • Did physical usage change, or did price and fees change?
  • Were weather and household conditions comparable?
